Education & Outreach

The Arizona Department of Water Resources is committed to promoting responsible water stewardship through education.

Arizona Project WET (APW) is the official water education program for the Arizona Department of Water Resources.

WET curriculum is correlated to Arizona State Standards at grade levels K-12 and in all curricular areas including Science, Language Arts, Social Studies and Math. Curriculum and Activity Guides are demonstrated and provided at state-wide professional development workshops.

Thanks to generous contributions by many sponsors, the workshops and all materials are available to educators at no charge.

In addition to WET workshops, APW directs the Arizona Make A Splash with WET Water Festivals held around the state each year. These events bring 4th graders together in a standards-based, hands-on, learning experience to super-charge their understanding of water concepts. Students report that learning at festivals is fun and teachers report that this field-study is a valuable experience for their students!

After the workshop and Water Festival, APW continues to support teachers in the classroom by making interactive teaching tools and other resources available for checkout to WET program alumni.

The Kids in Discovery Series (KIDS) 16-page activity booklets are written and colorfully illustrated and provide creative, hands-on investigations, demonstrations, science experiments, educational games and stories that stimulate understanding of each booklet’s topic.

These informative, inexpensive booklets make excellent handouts to complement school curriculum or public education efforts.

These booklets can be purchased through the Project WET online store.

Arizona educators are encouraged to explore the KIDS booklets that tie directly to Arizona:

Visit the Kid's Page for activities, including crossword puzzles, pictures, trivia questions, games and more!
