Tucson Active Management Area Fourth Management Plan
 

On May 13, 2016, Thomas Buschatzke, the Director of the Arizona Department of Water Resources signed an order issuing the Proposed Management Plan for the Tucson Active Management Area for the Fourth Management Period, 2010 to 2020 (Fourth Management Plan).  A copy of the signed order is available here. The Department held a public hearing on the Proposed Fourth Managment Plan for the Tucson Active Management Area on June 30, 2016. A copy of the transcript from the hearing is available here. Notice of the public hearing on the proposed management plan was published in the Arizona Daily Star on May 19, 2016 and May 26, 2016.  A copy of the public notice is available here.

 

On July 27, 2016, the Director filed in the Department a written Summary of Hearing and Findings with respect to matters considered during the public hearing on the Proposed Plan.  The Summary of Hearing and Findings indicated, and the Director determined, that some modifications to the Proposed Plan were necessary.  The Summary of Hearing and Findings is available here. Also on July 27, 2016, the Director entered an Order adopting the Management Plan for the Fourth Management Plan and describing the modifications made to the Fourth Management Plan. The Fourth Management Plan, contains mandatory conservation, monitoring, and reporting requirements for certain persons withdrawing, distributing, or receiving groundwater within the Tucson Active Management Area (TAMA). These requirements which are set forth in the Agricultural Conservation Program, the Municipal Conservation Program, and the Industrial Conservation Program of the plan, are designed to achieve reductions in withdrawals of groundwater within the TAMA.

 

The Proposed Plan also includes a Water Management Assistance Program, an introductory chapter, and chapters discussing water resources, water use characteristics, groundwater quality, plan implementation, water budgets and projections, and water management strategy.
