Map Modernization (Map Mod)

FEMA instituted the national Map Modernization Management Support (MMMS) program to update and modernize the flood maps in 2003.  Many of Arizona’s FIRMS dated from the 1970s and 1980s and were outdated because they no longer accurately reflected jurisdictional boundaries, street names, and physical features.  The Department’s Floodplain Management Unit has been collaborating with FEMA, county flood control districts and local communities across the state during this map update process.  To learn more about the Map Mod process, click www.fema.gov/plan/prevent/fhm/mm_main.shtmOff site

The new, updated maps, known as DFIRMs (Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps), feature aerial photography and newer information, where available.  Please check with your county flood control district to learn the status of your community’s DFIRMs (county websites.doc  Word Document  ) or check this list  (DFIRM status.doc   Word Document  ).
