Managing Arizona’s scarce water supplies

Mission Statement:

To ensure a long-term, sufficient, and secure water supply for the state, and to develop public policy that promotes efficient use and equitable distribution of water in an environmentally and economically sound manner.

Purpose:

To efficiently implement and enforce Arizona’s water resources laws, rules and AMA Management Plans as they relate to Active Management Areas, Irrigation Non-Expansion Areas, well drilling, groundwater recharge, assured and adequate water supply and surface water rights. To collect and maintain water resources data, conduct long range planning and develop or advise on policies to most effectively manage Arizona’s water resources. To assist communities in their efforts to efficiently and effectively manage their water resources and to facilitate regional water management partnerships.
