Mission Statement and Objectives

General Background

The Arizona-Mexico Commission (AMC)/Comisión Sonora-Arizona (CSA)  Water Committee was created to address critical water resources issues in the Arizona-Sonora region.

The AMC/CSA Water Committee was authorized by the Arizona-Mexico Commission (AMC) and it’s Mexican counterpart, the Comisión Sonora-Arizona (CSA), in April of 2007 in response to a joint request made by the Directors of the water resources agencies in the two states.  The Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) and the Comisión Estatal de Agua del Estado de Sonora (CEA - State of Sonora’s Water Commission) had recognized the need for a state-level forum to facilitate discussion of shared water resources issues.

The Committee held its Inaugural meeting on June 20, 2007 in Tucson, Arizona as part of the AMC Summer Plenary Session. The committee is chaired by, and comprised of public and private sector representatives from both states.
