CSAP is a University of Arizona Cooperative Extension program focused on bringing climate science research and applications to the people of the state of Arizona and the broader Southwest region including New Mexico, southern California, and northern Mexico. The program works to develop and coordinate outreach activities and applied research between the climate research community at the University of Arizona and a wide group of climate science user groups throughout the Southwest. This includes providing support and working through Cooperative Extension offices throughout Arizona. Partnerships with federal agencies down to individual climate science users are forged to improve the production and delivery of climate information. Research activities within CSAP include new climate product development tailored to specific user group needs and exploration into novel climate data visualization, dissemination, and analysis techniques and tools.

NOAA announced it will install the last nine of the 114 stations as part of its new, high-tech climate monitoring network. The stations track national average changes in temperature and precipitation trends. The U.S. Climate Reference Network (CRN) is on schedule to activate these final stations by the end of the summer.

The arid valleys of central and southeastern Arizona are home to earth fissures: a geologic hazard that threatens people, property, infrastructure (e.g., roads, gas lines, canals), and livestock. To reduce the societal risk of this growing geohazard, the Arizona Geological Survey (AZGS) combines detailed mapping of fissures with an aggressive educational outreach and map dissemination program.

The Western States Water Council is an organization consisting of representatives appointed by the governors of 18 western states. Since its creation, through adoption of a resolution at the Western Governors' Conference in 1965, the Council has strived to fulfill its chartered purposes. The purposes of the Council are: (1) to accomplish effective cooperation among western states in the conservation, development and management of water resources; (2) to maintain vital state prerogatives, while identifying ways to accommodate legitimate federal interests; (3) to provide a forum for the exchange of views, perspectives, and experiences among member states; and (4) to provide analysis of federal and state developments in order to assist member states in evaluating impacts of federal laws and programs and the effectiveness of state laws and policies.
